National Contact Point for cross-border healthcare

Follow-up treatment in another EU country

If you need to undergo follow-up treatment after treatment in another Member State, in an EEA State or in Switzerland, this can also be carried out in Germany.

If you have received medical treatment in another EU country, follow-up treatment may become necessary after your return to Germany. In this case, the regulations on cross-border healthcare provide that you receive the same follow-up treatment in Germany as if the treatment had been carried out in Germany.

If, by contrast, you would like to undergo the follow-up medical treatment in the treatment state, you should contact your health insurance fund in Germany beforehand. Particularly when it comes to in-patient follow-up treatment, you need separate approval from the health insurance fund.
